New tool reminds you to attach files to email

Paperclip Stop me if this sounds familiar. You type up a long email to a colleague, family member or friend and say something like "see attached for that photo" (or document, spreadsheet, presentation, or whatever) but then you click Send before remembering to attach the file? A new tool helps avoid this embarrassing but common mistake.

Those who use Google's Gmail might be aware of a new feature that reminds you to attach a file if you write something in the body of the email with the word "attach" or "attached," etc.

Those who use Microsoft Outlook, however (myself included) don't have this handy feature built into the software -- but a new plug-in application can do the trick for you.

CodePlex's Outlook Attachment Reminder is a new and free app will remind you to attach a file if you allude to it in the email and forget to attach it before clicking Send.

A neat option lets you manage what words it should look for in the email before it prompts you. By default it's "attachment" or "attached," but you can add "file," "see here" or "attach," for example.

This convenient add-on works with Office 2007 and Office 2010 and requires the free .NET 3.5 to be installed, too, as it was written in Visual Studio 2008.
